جامع الزيتونة هو الجامع الأعظم في وسط المدينة_العتيقة في تونس .
المسجد هو الأقدم في المدينة ويغطي مساحة 5000 متر مربع مع تسعة مداخل.
تم تأسيسه في نهاية القرن السابع أو بداية القرن الثامن، لكن شكله المعماري الحالي يعود إلى إعادة بناء في القرن التاسع، بما في ذلك العديد من الأعمدة القديمة المعاد استخدامها من #قرطاج🏺، بالإضافة إلى إضافات وترميمات لاحقة على مر القرون. استضاف المسجد واحدة من أولى وأكبر الجامعات في تاريخ الإسلام.

It was founded at the end of the 7th century or in the early 8th century, but its current architectural form dates from a reconstruction in the 9th century, including many antique columns reused from #Carthage🏺, and from later additions and restorations over the centuries. The mosque hosted one of the first and greatest universities in the history of Islam.
